Hello my lovely friends π
I’m not sure if ‘scary’ is the right word. Maybe ‘intimidating’…either way – the possibility of this beauty being ruined by “mistakes”, or a leaky pen does instill a sense of fear in me! π
Do you know what I mean?
I’ve thrown away quite a few pretty (empty, never saw a pen) planners at the end of the year, because I was afraid to mess it up!
The same thing was about to happen with my new journal. I saw it, loved it, brought it home, admired it from afar. π€
Isn’t it beautiful? π₯°
But what good is a lovely journal when it’s not being used? And, after all, the creative life is messy, so why not the book telling about the journey!
So I decided – renegade that I am π – to make the first page messy…even use paint π² And after that, what else could go wrong!
I always wanted to try ‘string painting’. It makes lovely pictures, and doesn’t look too hard. As a matter of fact, I heard from quite a few people that they did this in Elementary school.
So I got out some glass dishes for the paint, cut some cotton string, Latex gloves…and I was set.
Conquering the fear…baby steps π
I might be a bit rebellious, but still wasn’t about to try a new technique in this book.
Out came my spiral notebook with drawing-paper. Here we go…
Not impressive, but not terrible either π
It came out good enough that I wanna try it in the pretty book…and I did. And not just that, I wrote in it, ππ»ββοΈ sprayed the page with glue, π¬ and sprinkled glitter – of course, what else – over the whole page! Done π
And that’s the first page. Ready to be followed by new ideas, more art, bits and pieces of my creative life! π
Do you keep a journal? Do you find the first step scary, or do you jump right in? I’m looking forward to hearing/reading about your experience. π

Thank you Kathy dear π Iβve looked at a lot of bullet journals…and feel like afterwards I know less than I did before. π¬ So Iβm hoping to find my own way, now that the βfearβ of the first page is gone π

Beautiful journal and string art. I feel your pain. I got a new personal planner and have yet to damage it with my writing. lol I also ordered a felting kit to try. I have no idea what I’m in for but I’m willing to give it a go. Onwards and upwards to both of us!

Itβs important to try new things, isnβt it!? π€
Iβm now just jumping in. After all – whatβs the worst thing that could happen?π Maybe a little wasted time.
Like Bob Ross says – there are no mistakes. Now itβs a bird, or a tree π

I have a different problem – I’ve got tons of notebooks, all with just the first few pages written on!
I’ve not heard of string painting before, it looks interesting

I hear ya, Hannah – turns out the first page wasnβt the problem after all π The journal has been sitting here, taunting me. I didnβt know what should come after page 1. Iβve decided that it will eventually be a record-keeper of my projects…I just gotta get a move on! π
String painting is fun…thereβs just not a lot of variety in the outcome π Or maybe itβs me π
