The last door! And what a beautiful one it is! Let’s see what’s hiding behind it…
It’s the Christmas Star π
The ‘National Geographic’ sent a photographer to Alaska to capture this historic, amazing event. π
To the right you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful Northern Lights!
Well, this is it! Christmas is here πππ πΌ Thank you so much for joining me for this daily countdown to Christmas Day π I hope you enjoyed the journey. I know I did!
So apparently I’ve been trailing behind the actual calendar days π How long has that been going on? π I guess we’ll be opening 2 doors tomorrow π
But first things first…today’s – eh, yesterday’s – door
Wanna talk Christmas Carols? πΆ
Do you have a favorite? Which one makes you reach for the skip/off button on your listening device?
I go first π
Favorite is a tough choice π€
I’ll go with (for every day listening) –
‘I need a little Christmas’ by Johnny Mathis
and
‘Ugly Christmas Sweater’ by the-one-and-only Garth Brooks π€
Those two make me dance around the house every time!
For Christmas Eve –
Silent Night – I don’t have a favorite artist there π―
Now – which one makes me scramble to the skip/off button?
That’s easy…‘SantaBaby’ – I truly can’t stand listening to that one! I think this song is everything that Christmas is not/should not be about! π
So, that’s my list πΆπΆπΆ I’d love to hear your carol choices! π₯°
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you’ll be back for the opening of the remaining doors (remember…2 tomorrow π)
Welcome back! Now let’s open this door, and see what Day 15 has in store for us π
It’s….Snowglobes π
This time of year I have them all over the house. Here I gathered a few for show-and-tell π
I found out some interesting tidbits about the history of these whimsical treasures.
β¨The first version of a snow globe was displayed at the ‘Paris Universal Exposition’ in 1878 by a local glass company. It is described as “A paperweight, a hollow ball, filled with water and a white powder, which seems to ‘snow down’ on a man holding an umbrella”.
So how did we get from there to today? That’s described, in detail, in this article from artsy.com* (page will open in a new window).
It’s a very interesting story I hope you enjoy! π€
Before I go – here’s one more snow globe displayed, no…not in Paris π, it’s right here, in my little abode.
It’s my granddaughter’s favorite. When turned on it plays ‘Jingle Bells’ and the snow swirls around π She loves it, the adults endure it π It looks a lot better than it sounds. It plays a rather tinny version of this beautiful song. My daughter compared it to a smoke alarm π
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you’ll be back for the opening of the remaining doors! π πΌ
Another exciting Saturday night in our house π So let’s open Door #12…I have a feeling that whatever we find will be put to good use tonight π
A pretty mug to hold your favorite hot beverage while binging the Christmas movies. And what will that be? Hot Chocolate, Coffee, mulled wine?
Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? π
I do like a few of the newer Hallmark Christmas movies, but my absolute favorite is ‘White Christmas’ π¨βοΈπ¨ I watched it whenever it was on. No matter the time of day π So you can imagine my delight when I found out that it’s on Netflix! At least now I can somewhat control the time and frequency. π
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope that you will be back for the opening of the remaining doors! π πΌ
Thank you for stopping by to see what’s behind today’s door π
Shall we take a peek? Let’s shall…
That’s one beautiful door, isn’t it? π
And behind it we find…Snowmen! Sadly not the real ones, we’re still waiting for the materials to build those βοΈβοΈβοΈ But cutsey fake ones are just as sweet, aren’t they?
Here is a cute couple that greets me every morning on my walk π
And this little guy here π₯° For years he was smiling at me from my neighbors porch. And I was always a little jealous that he lived there and not at my house. Then, about 2 weeks ago, I walked into a Thrift Store…and there he was. I moved him into my cart so fast, he got dizzy π
And last, but not least, some beautiful ‘Jim Shore’ Snowmen π I added the jolly guy on the left to my ever growing collection last week. The little family has been with me for many, many years. And every year they make me smile! π
Now I hope they put a smile on your face too! π€ I’m looking forward to open Door #5 with you tomorrow! πβοΈπ πΌ
What’s this? A (cheeky π ) Recipe for a Christmas Cake!
β¨Once again this year, I’ve had requests for my Vodka Christmas Cake recipe – so here it goes
Gather: 1 cup Sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1 cup water 1 tsp. Salt 1 cup brown sugar Lemon Juice 4 large Eggs Nuts 1 bottle Vodka 2 cups dried fruit
Now let’s bake!
Sample a cup of Vodka to check quality! Take a large bowl, check the Vodka again to be sure it is of the highest quality, repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 tsp. of sugar. Beat again. At this point it is best to make sure the Vodka is still ok. Try another cup, just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eegs and add to the bowl and chuck in a cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off the floor, wash it and put in in the bowl a piece at a time, trying to count it! Mix on the turner. If the fried druit getas stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Vodka to test for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something. Check the Vodka. Now shit shift the lemon juice and strain the nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, of somefing. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the Vodka and wipe the counter with the cat.
β¨If you were looking for a new recipe…I’m sorry! But I hope you got a good laugh out of this, and that’s something, right?! π€
I made my Vodka Christmas Cake this morning, so now I need a nap! π
