A Collage For A New Mom πŸ˜

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•

I hope you’re doing well, and have a happy spring in your step on this lovely Monday!

Today I wanna show you the collage I made for my daughter, a new Mom 😊

You may remember…in January we welcomed little Georgia Mae to the world. I’m happy to report that she’s a very happy, smiley baby πŸ₯°

Here she is with her beautiful Mommy

So, since January I’ve been collecting little Mom/Baby related snippets, with the idea of somehow combining it all into a memento. It was just an idea in the back of my mind…until last Thursday. That’s when I came across a canvas hiding in a closet in my craft room. 😁

That, my hodgepodge of calendar pages, pictures, poems, doilies, a vintage music sheet, tissue paper, and some ModPodge* came together beautifully for this collage.

Here’s a detail – I love these little poems πŸ’–

I started by covering the canvas with one sheet of tissue paper, arranged and glued down the pictures, then secured and coated everything with ModPodge*. Done! Easy Peasy πŸ˜…

Did this inspire you to make your own memento-collage? Please let me know…I’d love to hear/read about it! πŸ’•

Have a fabulous day! 😎🌻🌞

What Do You Do When The Crojo Is Lost?

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•

I hope this finds you well! 😊

The question in the title line was one I asked myself many, many times over the last few weeks. And it’s also the reason why I took a timeout from writing for you.

I did try hard to get it back. I searched high and low for inspiration…spent WAY too much time on Pinterest πŸ™ˆ I dug deep into my creative pool – and my yarn stash 😁 – and came up empty.

What to do, what to do?

Then it hit me…I don’t HAVE to crochet. There might be other pretty things inside me waiting to be made. 😊

During my hours on Pinterest I saw many gorgeous handmade journals. Beautiful pieces of art, and creativity. I found myself going back to them over and over. I finally felt that little spark of inspiration 😍

I read about ‘Smash Books’ – it’s like a scrapbook, but not. It’s messy, it’s colorful, it’s awesome! πŸ˜… You just take a ready-made journal or loose pages (to be bound later on) and start painting, cutting, glueing down any- and everything that strikes your fancy.

It’s completely new territory for me. I’ve never done mixed media, plus it’s an exercise in patience. See, you can’t just sit down and start or go out buy some supplies and begin the creative journey.

There is some legwork involved πŸ€ͺ and, I have to say it again, patience. Not really my thing πŸ˜… so definitely a learning curve!

I visited our Antique Mall, and numerous thrift stores for old books, magazines, note- and greeting cards etc.

In between collecting these pretty things I coffee-stained paper. This is quite an exciting process. Even though I did it the same way every time, each page comes out differently.

Wanna see?

Pretty cool, huh? 😁

After a week of successful hunting and gathering the journal making began.

Here are my first attempts…

What I did, but will do differently from now on – I picked a theme for each signature.

What’s a signature you ask…I know I did 😊 A signature is a stack of loose papers (usually 5 or 6 sheets) that will be bound together to be combined into a book.

Anyway – I find that making themed signatures is a bit stifling…and time consuming. I’ll let you know, but I have a feeling that going with the inspiration, and combining snippets as you come across them, will be more fun. We’ll see 😊

So… I think it’s safe to say I found something I love to do 😍

Until next time πŸ’•

Behind The Scenes πŸ˜ŽπŸ§Άβ˜ƒοΈ

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• How have you been? I hope all is well in your neck of the woods 😊

All is good here…except we’re all getting a bit cabin-feverish. It’s so, so cold πŸ₯Ά β˜ƒοΈ

The recent snow brought us some beautiful scenery

But we’re ready for Spring-flowers – so today I turned my ‘ Jim Shore’ pillow over. From ‘Winter’ to ‘ Summer’! I hope Mother Nature will get the hint, and we’ll get at least the average temperatures for this time of year! 🌞🌷🌷

🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

I’ve suffered from a touch of ‘bloggers block’ lately πŸ˜• I’m not sure it’s over, but I won’t know until I try. Right? Maybe some pictures with comments to get back into the groove of things? Okay…here we go 😁

While the Laptop got a bit dusty, the crochet hooks were quite busy.

I made another vest

The new cardigan ‘Opposites attract’ πŸ˜ƒ

I like the idea of two different-color halves…so there may be quite a few of them in the future πŸ˜‰

The second one is already in the works…

And I have an idea for a third one…

The sun came around the corner just as I snapped the picture, so it’s hard to tell that the right side is a deep black. I’m not complaining though…just saying she could’ve waited another second 😎

It’s not the best picture, but you get the idea of the colorway 😊

The big fail for last month was this coat…

I loved it while I made it, kinda liked it when I tried it on (it’s heavy!), and started to get an uneasy feeling about it when I put it on the mannequin and started taking pictures πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

It stayed on the mannequin for a few days…then the decision was made – it has to come apart. And I wasn’t even upset – I guess that’s a sign that it was the right choice! πŸ™ƒ

Notes to self:

1. Bulky yarn is not the perfect yarn for long coats (it gets reeaally heavy)

2. Do not use the Double-crochet stitch, especially when placed between stitches, when

working with bulky yarn (the stitches pull apart)

3. Don’t weave in ends until you’re 100% sure that the piece is perfect! It’s much, much easier to take something apart when the ends are still dangling

And last but not least…Georgia Mae’s blanket is finished πŸ₯° Big yawn…I guess it’s quite cozy…

Now it’s back to one of the WIPs 🀩

I hope you have a wonderful week! πŸ’•

Welcome To The World, Baby Girl πŸŒ·πŸ’œπŸŒ·

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•

I have the best news πŸ₯°

Georgia Mae joined us in this beautiful world on Friday, January 25th at 9:20 pm 😊

She is 22″ long, and weighed in at 9.10 pounds.

She is a gorgeous bundle of joy! I know what you’re thinking…of course she would say that, she’s the Nana 😁

So see for yourself…

That day brought back a lot of memories of the day the new Mom was that small 😍

These two pictures are 30 years apart…

🌺🌼🌷🌼🌺🌼🌷🌺🌼🌷🌺🌷🌼🌺🌼🌷🌺🌷🌼🌺🌼🌷🌺🌷🌼🌺🌼🌷🌺

Update:

Now is probably a good time to finish ‘ Georgia Mae’s Flower Patch’ blanket CAL

To those of you who started to crochet along…I’m so, so sorry that it took so long to bring you the next step. I really dropped the ball on this one πŸ™ˆ

I’ve learned to never, ever start hosting a Crochet Along without finishing the project first! I did…I really did! ☺️

If you remember…this is where we left off

I’m working on the continuation as you read this, and will bring it to you very soon! 😊
If you have started the blanket, and are eager to continue with/finish it please message me or leave a comment – I will get the next steps to you asap!
Thank you for your patience.

This just in…

Georgia Mae is on her way home 😍

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! πŸ’•

❄️A ❄️ Picture ❄️ Perfect ❄️ Morning β„️

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•

For days now the weather guy has warned us of the ‘Winter storm’ headed this way.

Well, when I took the dogs out last night, there wasn’t much of anything…even the grass still peeked through a light dusting. But when I went outside this morning, everything had changed. I was greeted by this view…

The owl is wearing a hat…

…and our ‘Welcome’ bear a mask – I wonder what he’s up to πŸ˜‹

The neighborhood kids got busy πŸ˜ƒ

For me there are not many things more beautiful than a snow-covered Pine Tree

I don’t think Pearl, the cat, cares 😁

The Wisteria branches are a work of art 😍

Now I shut up, and let you enjoy the scenery 😊

(There’s nothing wrong with your eyes – it was early, and still somewhat dark-ish πŸ™‚)

I hope you enjoyed the stroll through our Winter Wonderland πŸ’œ

I wish you a wonderful weekend! πŸ’•

The (scary) New Journal

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•

I’m not sure if ‘scary’ is the right word. Maybe ‘intimidating’…either way – the possibility of this beauty being ruined by “mistakes”, or a leaky pen does instill a sense of fear in me! πŸ™ˆ

Do you know what I mean?

I’ve thrown away quite a few pretty (empty, never saw a pen) planners at the end of the year, because I was afraid to mess it up!

The same thing was about to happen with my new journal. I saw it, loved it, brought it home, admired it from afar. πŸ€“

Isn’t it beautiful? πŸ₯°

But what good is a lovely journal when it’s not being used? And, after all, the creative life is messy, so why not the book telling about the journey!

So I decided – renegade that I am πŸ˜‰ – to make the first page messy…even use paint 😲 And after that, what else could go wrong!

I always wanted to try ‘string painting’. It makes lovely pictures, and doesn’t look too hard. As a matter of fact, I heard from quite a few people that they did this in Elementary school.

So I got out some glass dishes for the paint, cut some cotton string, Latex gloves…and I was set.

Conquering the fear…baby steps πŸ˜„

I might be a bit rebellious, but still wasn’t about to try a new technique in this book.

Out came my spiral notebook with drawing-paper. Here we go…

Not impressive, but not terrible either 😌

It came out good enough that I wanna try it in the pretty book…and I did. And not just that, I wrote in it, πŸ™†πŸ»β€β™€οΈ sprayed the page with glue, 😬 and sprinkled glitter – of course, what else – over the whole page! Done 😊

And that’s the first page. Ready to be followed by new ideas, more art, bits and pieces of my creative life! 😍

Do you keep a journal? Do you find the first step scary, or do you jump right in? I’m looking forward to hearing/reading about your experience. πŸ’•

Looking back…and forward πŸ˜Š

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•
I hope this finds you well! Did you have a nice holiday season? πŸŽ„β›„οΈ
I wish you a very happy and successful 2019! May it be as fabulous as you are 😍

You may have noticed that I took a little break on here.
Note to self: Don’t do that again! πŸ™ˆ It’s really hard to find the way back – even though I enjoy it immensely. Finding a perfect re-starting point…well, didn’t happen.
So I’m just gonna tell/show you what I’ve been up to over the last few weeks. 😁

I did a few craft shows – here’s a picture of the very last one. It was at my friend Donna’s house. She makes the most amazing canned goods, and was so sweet to host a ‘Maker’s Market’ at her house. 😊

In between shows I was busy creating new pretties for the next one.

In December we had some friends over for a wonderful ‘Holiday Party’. πŸ˜πŸŽ„πŸ₯³
I made a German/Hungarian Beef Stew.  Judging by the empty bowls… it was delicious.🀩

One of my goals for the coming year is to take my camera with me more, and show you some pictures from around here. We’re off to a great beginning – here are my two favorites from the first outing.

Sycamores  – I love them! 😍

Some em….pretty things (if you know what they’re called, please let me know) 😊

I made my first felted hat!
At this point hubby really doubted that I knew what I was doing πŸ˜‚

But – it turned out well  πŸ˜ƒ More on that later.

Oh…one more blogging goal….I wanna learn (and share) about all the amazing art out there. I’m thinking a ‘Weekly Gallery’  πŸž What are your thoughts on that?

Before you leave – here’s the first hat of 2019. It’s a Pixie πŸ§šπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Hat to symbolize the hope for a magical new year 🀩

Alright my friends – this was it in a nutshell. It’s good to be back! πŸ€—
I hope to see you again soon. πŸ’•
