FiPs, WiPs, and a Tip ๐Ÿค“

Hello my lovely friends ๐Ÿ’• Thanks so much for stopping by, even though you must have felt a bit abandoned over the last few weeks. โ˜บ๏ธ

I’ve been quite busy with hook and yarn, and that’s what today’s post is about.

FiPs…I’m pretty certain that that’s not a ‘thing’ ๐Ÿ˜ It just sounds so nice in the title. I decided – for the sake of a pretty headline – that it will stand for ‘Finished Projects’.

And here they are…

The ‘Blue Skies’ Slouchy Hat

The ‘Falling Leaves’ Infinity Scarf (one of my personal favorites) ๐Ÿ˜Š If you like a closer look – it is now (with more pictures) in my brandnew Etsy Shop And a ‘ Newsboy/Cabbie’ Hat- Bear seemed to like it…even if he looks a bit grouchy ๐Ÿ˜‰

The WiPs The Puzzle Poncho is coming along

The ‘Flower Meadow’ has been a bit neglected lately – but it moved toward the top of the list

New is another ‘Puzzle’ – I just don’t seem to be able to move away from them ๐Ÿ˜

A few weeks ago I bought these gorgeous Caron cakes

They’re so pretty and beautifully soft…they are going to be something luscious for me! ๐Ÿ˜

First I thought ‘Poncho’ – then I decided that I would much rather have a fabulous, funky sweater. With different stitches and shapes. This is what I have so far

One side and the start of the sleeve

I don’t know what happened here ๐Ÿ˜• I followed the instructions, double checked every stitch, and number…but it’s quite ‘ruffly’. I do love it though, so it can go to the bottom of the sweater, and be a quirky finish that just hangs about – probably surrounded by fringes. ๐Ÿค“

I see some trial-and-error frogging in my future, but hopefully it’ll -eventually- turn into something pretty. ๐Ÿ˜

That’s all for ‘WiPs in pictures’. I do have to make some smaller things for the store – like hats, headbands, dishcloths…but I don’t have anything to show there yet. ๐Ÿ˜Š

A Tip for my Crochet Friends

Hopefully it’ll help you win every game of ‘Yarn Chicken’ ๐Ÿ˜

Oh…one more thing – please join me in a ‘Dance of Joy’

I had my first crochet sales last week ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

These pretties found a new home…

Yes…’Feronia’ went to live with someone else. My daughter’s first question was “Was the lady worthy?” ๐Ÿ˜‚ And I can wholeheartedly say ‘Yes’! ๐Ÿ’•

This hat went home with her too

And ‘ Purple Delight’ is now warming the neck of a lovely friend of mine ๐Ÿ˜

So…that’s all the news for today โ˜บ๏ธ

I hope to see you again soon ๐Ÿ’•

Small ย ~ Project ~ Sunday ๐ŸŒบ Cute coasters ๐Ÿบ

Hello my lovely friends ๐Ÿ’• Welcome back!

It’s a lazy Sunday ๐Ÿค“ And this morning’s forecast was right…

‘Cause that’s what I’ve been doing! ๐Ÿ˜Š I’ve made some cute coasters, and I’ll show you how you can whip up some yourself in an afternoon. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I’ve used a different type yarn for each one – I can’t see a difference. I used a crochet hook    Size H/5mm.

In case you’re interested:

Purple = Caron, 1 pound ; Yellow = Red Heart ; Green = Peaches and Creme

I’ve made “Smoothies” and a “Beerglass”. The basic form is the same.

Ch 18, and work 32 rows in the ‘Tunesian Stitch’ ๐Ÿ’ฅ If you need a little reminder how to work that one …just click here for the how-to ๐Ÿค“

The Beer – Glass ๐Ÿบ

Connect your border yarn to the top right corner of your rectangle.  Ch 2, hdc across the top to the top left corner.  Ch1, slipstitch into the first stitch of the longer side. Slipstitch your way down, working into the top loop only. At the bottom left corner, ch 1, hdc into the first space. Hdc across. At the corner, hdc into last space, ch1, slipstitch into the same space. Ch 1. Continue with the slipstitch to the last loop (first stitch of the top row). Ch 2. Hdc in same space.

If you’re doing the ‘Smoothie’ coaster – ch1. Hdc across, working the spaces between the dc, not the top loops. Fasten off.

For the “Beerglass” you’ll now crochet ….

The “Foam” :

Skip 3 stitches, *5dc – 1 ch – 5 dc in 4th stitch (shell)* . Skip 3 st, 1sc, Skip 3 st, repeat from * to *; Sc in last stitch.  Ch 1. Turn. 7 slipstitch on each dc of previous row. 5 treble crochet in sc of previous row. Skip 3dc, slipstitch in each following dc. End row with 1 slipstitch.

The “Handle”:
The handle is a continuation of the ‘foam’.

Ch 20. Count 5 stitches from the bottom and connect with a slipstitch in the 6th. Work 1set of ‘Tunesian Stitch’. Slipstitch to the coaster-border. Fasten off, block.

They do wanna curl a bit…so it’s best to get them wet, wet ๐Ÿ˜ฌ and block overnight – and don’t forget the ScotchGuard! ๐Ÿ˜

What do you think? Will you be making some? I think they’ll be a cute surprise at the next cookout – maybe even a take-home gift?! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I’m working on Part II of the ‘Crochet Along’ and try my best to present it to you tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜

Until then ๐Ÿ’•

My Crochet~Alongs – Past and Future ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Hello my lovely friends ๐Ÿ’• How wonderful to see you!

Soooooo…..this just happened

 No worries…it was intentional ๐Ÿ˜

It’s the result of me giving up on the ‘Crochet Along’ I started last week. It was just too boring๐Ÿ˜ด I didn’t feel inspired at all…every time I looked at it and contemplated doing a few rounds…I found something else to do. ๐Ÿ˜• I had a few talks with myself…not out loud – at least I don’t think so ๐Ÿ˜œ ….trying to convince myself that it’s the first CAL for me, that maybe my expectations were too high.

So I set it aside – in a different room…that should’ve told me something ๐Ÿ˜ – saying ‘it’s too hot to be sitting under a ever growing blanket. A-huh ~ sure! That’s what it is.

Now I’m curious….did you ever get all excited about a project only to realize that it’s not that great? Did you abandon it for ‘greener pastures’ or did you power through? ๐Ÿ™‚

What brought me to the ‘official’ abandonment of this project was yesterday’s post from Robin from Imperial Crochet – and seeing that she had the same problem. That’s when I finally admitted that this CAL is not going to happen for me.

Life is too short to be bored by a project ๐Ÿ˜Š weaving in ends is bad enough ๐Ÿ™„

But three positives came out of this experience ๐Ÿ˜€

1. I now know how to do the Tapestry Stitch

2. I have 2 pounds of pretty yarn in pretty colors to make something lovely with

3. This is where we come to the ‘CAL future’ mentioned in the title! I’m now inspired to hold my own Crochet Along…built from the expectations I had for the failed one. ๐Ÿค“

I have a lot of ideas, and already started on it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It’s gonna be a wild one, because this wee one made an appearance and it looks like she’s here to stay ๐Ÿ’œ

I plan to post more about my CAL very soon ๐Ÿ˜ I’m really excited and ready to rumble! ๐Ÿ˜…

Thanks so much for visiting and reading all the great way down to here ๐Ÿค—

I hope you will join me tomorrow for ‘Work ~ in ~ Progress Wednesday’ ๐ŸŒบ

Until then ๐Ÿ’•

My First Crochet ~Along…and a BIG ‘Duh’ Moment ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Hello my lovely friends  ๐Ÿ’• Wonderful to see you!

Last week I signed up for my first crochet ~along. ๐Ÿ˜ It was announced on the ‘Yarnspiration’ Facebook page, in collaboration with the ‘Crochet Crowd’.

Since I’ve been wanting to do one for quite some time now, and Mikey from the Crochet Crowd is always a great source of inspiration (and, hey – I got to buy more yarn ๐Ÿ˜œ) I signed up, went and ordered my yarn….giggles…..and waited. ๐Ÿ˜• Not my greatest talent – but I made it. ๐Ÿ˜‹

The first part of the instructions arrived – via e-mail- on Monday, together with the reveal of the project picture

I like the look of that! ๐Ÿ˜

The yarn didn’t get here ’til Tuesday evening ๐Ÿ™„ so I had to wait until yesterday (Wednesday) to finally start my blanket.

But first – decision time. Which colors to use? See, when I ordered the yarn I couldn’t really decide. I knew I wanted purple and lime green. Well, guess what? No lime green ๐Ÿ˜• I didn’t like the sage…so I went with turquoise and apricot/orange. Close enough! ๐Ÿ˜‚

The pairing of the skeins

   That’s nice ๐Ÿ˜Š   That’s ok too ๐Ÿ™‚

  Yep…that’s it ๐Ÿ˜€
I looked over the instructions

Glanced at the note, 1st, 2nd, 3rd round….got it! Or so I thought! ๐Ÿ˜œ

Now we’re coming to my big ‘Duh’ moment. See โ˜๏ธin the note where it says “carry color not in use loosely across the top of previous row” and see how the sentence continues?! Well, apparently a glance at ‘notes’ in instructions is not advisable! ๐Ÿ˜ธ Since I stopped glancing right at “previous row”, I did not really know how to accomplish the carrying of the color. And apparently a severe brainfog prevented me from figuring it out all by myself. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

And that’s how I ended up with this

You can see exactly where and when I took a closer look at the directions ๐Ÿ˜‚

But since it’s just for me I didn’t frog it. ๐Ÿ˜‹ The other side is perfectly fine

I still love my colors. ๐Ÿ˜ What do you think of it/them?

Are you inspired? If you are…here’s the link to the pattern. ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks for visiting today ๐Ÿ˜  I hope you don’t think any less of me now! ๐Ÿค—

I’m looking forward to hearing from you…tell me what you’re thinking ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Take good care of yourself ๐Ÿ’•

Work(s) ~ in ~ Progress Wednesday ๐Ÿค“

Hello my lovely friends ๐Ÿ’• Thank you so much for peeking in! ๐Ÿ˜

A blanket, a Poncho, and a scarf…, not the start of a crochet joke, just the wips on the hook these days. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I didn’t get too much done on either, because the hubby was off work for a long weekend because of the 4th of July holiday, and that always cuts into my ‘creative time’. Not that I’m complaining. ๐Ÿ˜
I did manage to crochet some ‘Granny Square Flowers’ for an Afghan I’m making for a lovely couple that will say ‘I do’ at the end of October. ๐Ÿ˜

I still have a long way to go….good thing the wedding is 3+ months away. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The reason I picked the green as a border color, instead of the traditional black, is that I want it to look like a meadow sprinkled with flowers. ๐Ÿ˜€

A little time was wasted when I just crocheted away, not paying close enough attention, ’cause  ‘I got this now…. I don’t have to count anymore’…..pffft- boy was I wrong! ๐Ÿ˜œ

But….those flowers can always serve as coasters! ๐Ÿ˜‰

If this inspired you, please stop by tomorrow…. I will write out the pattern, and share it with you then. ๐Ÿค—

You probably noticed the hint to numerous projects in the title ๐Ÿค“ There is one more…

I started the first panel for a ‘Granny Square Pattern’ Poncho. Sadly this will be the last project with this, my favorite, yarn. ๐Ÿ˜• It’s discontinued! Can you believe that? How can they do this to me? ๐Ÿ˜ข Oh well, over time another favorite will come along! Have you ever fallen in love with one particular yarn/color, planning all these pretty things to make – only to find out that there is no more?

It’s a rectangular ‘Granny…eh, not Square’ ๐Ÿ™ƒ

It’ll be a crazy one ๐Ÿ˜† with the other panel in a different, contrasting color – and ruffles.

Well, that’s the plan right now. I’ll let you know how it goes. ๐Ÿ˜

Oh…there is one more! The scarf for Kelley’s Giveaway is almost done, and ready to ship. ๐Ÿ˜€

It just needs some fringes, and-maybe- a border. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Alrighty….that’s all for today. Now it’s dinner time – I think the dogs are starving ๐Ÿ˜‚They’re such good actors! ๐ŸŽญ

I sure hope to see you tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜

Until then ๐Ÿ’•

The Purple-y Oversized Ruffle Shawlย

Hello my lovely friends ๐Ÿ’• How wonderful to see you!

Are you ready for the big reveal? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alright….here she is

In this picture โฌ†๏ธ  the colors are almost ‘true to life’ ….in this one โฌ‡๏ธ not so much, but you’ll be able to see better how it looks like when worn. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It is quite big, isn’t it?

Now I will tell you how you would go about if you wanted to make one for yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚

You will need

– 5 skeins ‘Caron Simply Soft’ in your favorite color

– 4 skeins Ruffle Yarn (I used ‘Red Heart’ Sashay with Sequins)

Hook Size I (5.25mm) That’s slightly bigger than recommended, but I wanted the shawl to be loosely crocheted, and flowy)

– Needle and Thread

Start with the Caron Yarn, and crochet a half ‘Granny Square’.

I found these wonderful directions on Ravelry. So instead of copying her, I’ll give you the link to the page of Renate Kirkpatrick. *

And now crochet until you used up all 5 skeins. ๐Ÿ˜ To avoid the dreaded ‘sewing in of yarn ends’ I use the ‘Russian Join’

For me the end was nerve racking! Why? Take a look…

Last inch of the last skein on the last row ๐Ÿ˜ณ And the color is discontinued! Double Whammy! Oh well, it all worked out fine! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Update: This color seems to be back ๐Ÿ˜ but apparently in a smaller skein- size/weight. Unless it was an overstock item… I really can’t be sure. ๐Ÿ˜•

Alright….time to add the ruffle. I used one round of double crochet. Yep, that’s really it. ๐Ÿค“

Start anywhere. Insert your hook through one space of the ruffle yarn, about 2″ from the beginning. Pick up 2 loops of the last row on the shawl, and work a double crochet – always skip a space of the ruffle yarn. That way your border will be nice and full, and the shawl not wavy and puckering.

And now keep going. Skip a space, yarn over, pick up 2 loops, and work a double crochet, like you do with any other yarn.

When you get to the end of a skein, stop 2″ before the end, and pick up with a new skein (about 2″ in). Aaaaand keep going. Work 3 dc in every corner stitch, to ensure the corner will lie nice and flat.

This actually took a wee bit longer than anticipated, but it’s worth it in the end. ๐Ÿ˜

Once you worked your way around the shawl …well done! High five โœ‹… take the loop off the hook, take your needle and thread, pick up the loop, and secure it with a few stitches.

Always insert the needle into the yarn.

Fold over the end of the ruffle yarn and stitch in place. Repeat on the other side, then join both edges together, using a Satin Stitch. Here also …into the yarn

There, you can hardly tell it’s there….right?! ๐Ÿ˜€

Trim the frayed edges (not too close to the seam!)

You’re done! Now, all you gotta do is wait for a cool night so you can show her off! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I hope this is easy to follow! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message or mention it in the comments. I’m always right here. ๐Ÿ˜˜

* If you can’t get to the pattern because you are not a member of Ravelry, and don’t wanna be, let me know I will post the instructions for the ‘Half Granny Square’. ๐Ÿค—

I hope you have a fabulous weekend. Drop me a line or two if you get the chance. I always love hearing from you!

Until next time ๐Ÿ’•

Work ~ in ~ Progress Wednesdayย

Hello my lovely friends  ๐Ÿ’• Thanks for visiting!

Before Wednesday turns into Thursday I wanna show you real quick what I’m working on these days. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Here’s the reason why I’m so late…

Yesterday I finished this stole….and not a moment too soon I might add. See… ๐Ÿ˜œ

I guess you can say that the ‘Crochet Goddess’ smiled fondly upon me. ๐Ÿ˜‡

Well, that was yesterday. Today…not so much. ๐Ÿ˜•

I spent a good chunk of the day adding a ruffle border to the stole. That was a lot more time consuming than I anticipated. That thing is biiiiig! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

So….after picking up stitches (a lot of stitches!) with the ruffle yarn, knitting one round, starting to bind off…I noticed that the stole is now quite wavy. Not the desired effect. Meh ๐Ÿ˜”

๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ โฌ…๏ธ My immediate future ๐Ÿ˜›

Oh well, not the first time, and probably not the last.

I’m pretty sure that I know where I went wrong….more about that -hopefully- tomorrow.

There are two more projects in progress right now.

This one…

I’m not sure where it’s going…I just wanted to see how the fuzzy yarn looks as a piece, not just as a border. It’s kinda cute, don’t you think? There is an idea trying to form in my mind….let’s see if it leads to something.

And then there is, of course, the never ending story of the cardigan. ๐Ÿ˜

After I finished the back with the funky yarn, the maroon seams really didn’t fit the picture anymore. So I undid them, and redid them in funky ๐Ÿ˜

See what you think

It’s definitely more ‘me’ now. I love crazy colors, and sorta mismatched clothes. ๐Ÿ˜

Did you ever rework a piece numerous times? Please tell me that -eventually – I’ll be done! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m looking forward to hearing from you! ๐Ÿค—

Until next time ๐Ÿ’•
