Small Β ~ Project ~ Sunday 🌺 Cute coasters πŸΊ

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• Welcome back!

It’s a lazy Sunday πŸ€“ And this morning’s forecast was right…

‘Cause that’s what I’ve been doing! 😊 I’ve made some cute coasters, and I’ll show you how you can whip up some yourself in an afternoon. πŸ˜ƒ

I’ve used a different type yarn for each one – I can’t see a difference. I used a crochet hook    Size H/5mm.

In case you’re interested:

Purple = Caron, 1 pound ; Yellow = Red Heart ; Green = Peaches and Creme

I’ve made “Smoothies” and a “Beerglass”. The basic form is the same.

Ch 18, and work 32 rows in the ‘Tunesian Stitch’ πŸ’₯ If you need a little reminder how to work that one …just click here for the how-to πŸ€“

The Beer – Glass 🍺

Connect your border yarn to the top right corner of your rectangle.  Ch 2, hdc across the top to the top left corner.  Ch1, slipstitch into the first stitch of the longer side. Slipstitch your way down, working into the top loop only. At the bottom left corner, ch 1, hdc into the first space. Hdc across. At the corner, hdc into last space, ch1, slipstitch into the same space. Ch 1. Continue with the slipstitch to the last loop (first stitch of the top row). Ch 2. Hdc in same space.

If you’re doing the ‘Smoothie’ coaster – ch1. Hdc across, working the spaces between the dc, not the top loops. Fasten off.

For the “Beerglass” you’ll now crochet ….

The “Foam” :

Skip 3 stitches, *5dc – 1 ch – 5 dc in 4th stitch (shell)* . Skip 3 st, 1sc, Skip 3 st, repeat from * to *; Sc in last stitch.  Ch 1. Turn. 7 slipstitch on each dc of previous row. 5 treble crochet in sc of previous row. Skip 3dc, slipstitch in each following dc. End row with 1 slipstitch.

The “Handle”:
The handle is a continuation of the ‘foam’.

Ch 20. Count 5 stitches from the bottom and connect with a slipstitch in the 6th. Work 1set of ‘Tunesian Stitch’. Slipstitch to the coaster-border. Fasten off, block.

They do wanna curl a bit…so it’s best to get them wet, wet 😬 and block overnight – and don’t forget the ScotchGuard! 😝

What do you think? Will you be making some? I think they’ll be a cute surprise at the next cookout – maybe even a take-home gift?! 😎

I’m working on Part II of the ‘Crochet Along’ and try my best to present it to you tomorrow 😍

Until then πŸ’•

My First Crochet ~Along…and a BIG ‘Duh’ Moment πŸ€¦β€β™‚️

Hello my lovely friends  πŸ’• Wonderful to see you!

Last week I signed up for my first crochet ~along. 😁 It was announced on the ‘Yarnspiration’ Facebook page, in collaboration with the ‘Crochet Crowd’.

Since I’ve been wanting to do one for quite some time now, and Mikey from the Crochet Crowd is always a great source of inspiration (and, hey – I got to buy more yarn 😜) I signed up, went and ordered my yarn….giggles…..and waited. πŸ˜• Not my greatest talent – but I made it. πŸ˜‹

The first part of the instructions arrived – via e-mail- on Monday, together with the reveal of the project picture

I like the look of that! 😍

The yarn didn’t get here ’til Tuesday evening πŸ™„ so I had to wait until yesterday (Wednesday) to finally start my blanket.

But first – decision time. Which colors to use? See, when I ordered the yarn I couldn’t really decide. I knew I wanted purple and lime green. Well, guess what? No lime green πŸ˜• I didn’t like the sage…so I went with turquoise and apricot/orange. Close enough! πŸ˜‚

The pairing of the skeins

   That’s nice 😊   That’s ok too πŸ™‚

  Yep…that’s it πŸ˜€
I looked over the instructions

Glanced at the note, 1st, 2nd, 3rd round….got it! Or so I thought! 😜

Now we’re coming to my big ‘Duh’ moment. See ☝️in the note where it says “carry color not in use loosely across the top of previous row” and see how the sentence continues?! Well, apparently a glance at ‘notes’ in instructions is not advisable! 😸 Since I stopped glancing right at “previous row”, I did not really know how to accomplish the carrying of the color. And apparently a severe brainfog prevented me from figuring it out all by myself. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

And that’s how I ended up with this

You can see exactly where and when I took a closer look at the directions πŸ˜‚

But since it’s just for me I didn’t frog it. πŸ˜‹ The other side is perfectly fine

I still love my colors. 😍 What do you think of it/them?

Are you inspired? If you are…here’s the link to the pattern. 😁

Thanks for visiting today 😍  I hope you don’t think any less of me now! πŸ€—

I’m looking forward to hearing from you…tell me what you’re thinking 😎

Take good care of yourself πŸ’•

Work(s) ~ in ~ Progress Wednesday πŸ€“

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• Thank you so much for peeking in! 😍

A blanket, a Poncho, and a scarf…..no, not the start of a crochet joke, just the wips on the hook these days. 😊

I didn’t get too much done on either, because the hubby was off work for a long weekend because of the 4th of July holiday, and that always cuts into my ‘creative time’. Not that I’m complaining. 😝
I did manage to crochet some ‘Granny Square Flowers’ for an Afghan I’m making for a lovely couple that will say ‘I do’ at the end of October. 😍

I still have a long way to go….good thing the wedding is 3+ months away. 😊

The reason I picked the green as a border color, instead of the traditional black, is that I want it to look like a meadow sprinkled with flowers. πŸ˜€

A little time was wasted when I just crocheted away, not paying close enough attention, ’cause  ‘I got this now…. I don’t have to count anymore’…..pffft- boy was I wrong! 😜

But….those flowers can always serve as coasters! πŸ˜‰

If this inspired you, please stop by tomorrow…. I will write out the pattern, and share it with you then. πŸ€—

You probably noticed the hint to numerous projects in the title πŸ€“ There is one more…

I started the first panel for a ‘Granny Square Pattern’ Poncho. Sadly this will be the last project with this, my favorite, yarn. πŸ˜• It’s discontinued! Can you believe that? How can they do this to me? 😒 Oh well, over time another favorite will come along! Have you ever fallen in love with one particular yarn/color, planning all these pretty things to make – only to find out that there is no more?

It’s a rectangular ‘Granny…eh, not Square’ πŸ™ƒ

It’ll be a crazy one πŸ˜† with the other panel in a different, contrasting color – and ruffles.

Well, that’s the plan right now. I’ll let you know how it goes. 😁

Oh…there is one more! The scarf for Kelley’s Giveaway is almost done, and ready to ship. πŸ˜€

It just needs some fringes, and-maybe- a border. 😌

Alrighty….that’s all for today. Now it’s dinner time – I think the dogs are starving πŸ˜‚They’re such good actors! 🎭

I sure hope to see you tomorrow! 😍

Until then πŸ’•

The Purple-y Oversized Ruffle ShawlΒ

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• How wonderful to see you!

Are you ready for the big reveal? πŸ˜‰

Alright….here she is

In this picture ⬆️  the colors are almost ‘true to life’ ….in this one ⬇️ not so much, but you’ll be able to see better how it looks like when worn. 😊

It is quite big, isn’t it?

Now I will tell you how you would go about if you wanted to make one for yourself. πŸ™‚

You will need

– 5 skeins ‘Caron Simply Soft’ in your favorite color

– 4 skeins Ruffle Yarn (I used ‘Red Heart’ Sashay with Sequins)

Hook Size I (5.25mm) That’s slightly bigger than recommended, but I wanted the shawl to be loosely crocheted, and flowy)

– Needle and Thread

Start with the Caron Yarn, and crochet a half ‘Granny Square’.

I found these wonderful directions on Ravelry. So instead of copying her, I’ll give you the link to the page of Renate Kirkpatrick. *

And now crochet until you used up all 5 skeins. 😁 To avoid the dreaded ‘sewing in of yarn ends’ I use the ‘Russian Join’

For me the end was nerve racking! Why? Take a look…

Last inch of the last skein on the last row 😳 And the color is discontinued! Double Whammy! Oh well, it all worked out fine! 😎

Update: This color seems to be back 😁 but apparently in a smaller skein- size/weight. Unless it was an overstock item… I really can’t be sure. πŸ˜•

Alright….time to add the ruffle. I used one round of double crochet. Yep, that’s really it. πŸ€“

Start anywhere. Insert your hook through one space of the ruffle yarn, about 2″ from the beginning. Pick up 2 loops of the last row on the shawl, and work a double crochet – always skip a space of the ruffle yarn. That way your border will be nice and full, and the shawl not wavy and puckering.

And now keep going. Skip a space, yarn over, pick up 2 loops, and work a double crochet, like you do with any other yarn.

When you get to the end of a skein, stop 2″ before the end, and pick up with a new skein (about 2″ in). Aaaaand keep going. Work 3 dc in every corner stitch, to ensure the corner will lie nice and flat.

This actually took a wee bit longer than anticipated, but it’s worth it in the end. 😍

Once you worked your way around the shawl …well done! High five βœ‹… take the loop off the hook, take your needle and thread, pick up the loop, and secure it with a few stitches.

Always insert the needle into the yarn.

Fold over the end of the ruffle yarn and stitch in place. Repeat on the other side, then join both edges together, using a Satin Stitch. Here also …into the yarn

There, you can hardly tell it’s there….right?! πŸ˜€

Trim the frayed edges (not too close to the seam!)

You’re done! Now, all you gotta do is wait for a cool night so you can show her off! 😊

I hope this is easy to follow! πŸ™‚ If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message or mention it in the comments. I’m always right here. 😘

* If you can’t get to the pattern because you are not a member of Ravelry, and don’t wanna be, let me know I will post the instructions for the ‘Half Granny Square’. πŸ€—

I hope you have a fabulous weekend. Drop me a line or two if you get the chance. I always love hearing from you!

Until next time πŸ’•

Work ~ in ~ Progress WednesdayΒ

Hello my lovely friends  πŸ’• Thanks for visiting!

Before Wednesday turns into Thursday I wanna show you real quick what I’m working on these days. 😊

Here’s the reason why I’m so late…

Yesterday I finished this stole….and not a moment too soon I might add. See… 😜

I guess you can say that the ‘Crochet Goddess’ smiled fondly upon me. πŸ˜‡

Well, that was yesterday. Today…not so much. πŸ˜•

I spent a good chunk of the day adding a ruffle border to the stole. That was a lot more time consuming than I anticipated. That thing is biiiiig! 😳

So….after picking up stitches (a lot of stitches!) with the ruffle yarn, knitting one round, starting to bind off…I noticed that the stole is now quite wavy. Not the desired effect. Meh πŸ˜”

🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸 ⬅️ My immediate future πŸ˜›

Oh well, not the first time, and probably not the last.

I’m pretty sure that I know where I went wrong….more about that -hopefully- tomorrow.

🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼

There are two more projects in progress right now.

This one…

I’m not sure where it’s going…I just wanted to see how the fuzzy yarn looks as a piece, not just as a border. It’s kinda cute, don’t you think? There is an idea trying to form in my mind….let’s see if it leads to something.

And then there is, of course, the never ending story of the cardigan. 😏

After I finished the back with the funky yarn, the maroon seams really didn’t fit the picture anymore. So I undid them, and redid them in funky 😁

See what you think

Before

After

It’s definitely more ‘me’ now. I love crazy colors, and sorta mismatched clothes. 😍

Did you ever rework a piece numerous times? Please tell me that -eventually – I’ll be done! πŸ˜‰

I’m looking forward to hearing from you! πŸ€—

Until next time πŸ’•

Playing ‘Yarn Chicken’ and winning πŸ€£

Boom! πŸ’₯ And that’s how it’s done….well, this time 😜

Last inch of the last skein on the last row 😳 I’m quite happy that I won this round of                 ‘Yarn Chicken’ πŸ˜ƒ Sometimes it’s the little things, right?

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’•

My blogger friend Mrs. Craft posted 5 Rules for playing Yarn Chicken a couple of weeks ago…that’s where I learned that the battle against the end of the skein has a name. πŸ˜‹

As you can gather, the ‘Purple-icious Triangle Scarf’ is almost finished! 😁 There will be a surprise finish 😏 More on that tomorrow in the ‘Work~in~Progress’ Post.

(Hint: think Ruffle πŸ˜‰)

Thanks for visiting 😍 I hope you’ll peek in tomorrow!

Until then πŸ’•

Work~in~Progress Wednesday 🌺 Join your Granny Squares and Crochet some Lollipops

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• Thanks for popping by to see the progress on the Granny Square Cardi πŸ€—

Here’s the reason why I’m so late today….

  The Lollipops πŸ˜€

I’ll show you what I did with them in a minute.

But first…all the Squares and Triangles are finished. Time to join everything together. You might remember that I had joined some already  – just to see where I was going with this. 😊 There are different ways to sew/crochet them together. I didn’t want them to be attached to closely, so I chose this ….

It’s easy to do…take a look πŸ‘€

Start with 2 squares, and crochet one double-crochet into one corner. Yo, 3 dc into the corner of another square.

Come back to the first square and place 3 dc into the second square.

I found that this is the best way to hold the two pieces

Keep going back and forth until the last square. Work 1dc into it.

Alright…now that all the pieces are joined I noticed that there was a gap in the back! 😳 The pieces didn’t fit as perfectly as I thought.

I forgot to take a picture….here’s one from the first attempt to fill it in. That’s quite a gap, isn’t it?! 😝

I didn’t just want to fill it in with the yarn color on either side. So I tried Granny Squares in the contrast color ⬆️ Meh….nah

Then I tried bigger blocks to place in the middle and go from there

Well, that looked waaaaay better in my head 🀣

Next….

Hmmm…. Getting closer – I love the yarn, love the mandala….just not on the cardi.

Show of hands – who knew that, eventually, I’d add something oddly mismatched, wild and colorful? 😝 You were right! Here we go

And there are the Lollipops πŸ˜‚

Because just a square of outrageous yarn just wouldn’t do! πŸ˜‰

That’s where I am so far. I was really hoping I could show you the finished cardi today….but the Design-Goddess had other ideas. 😊 Hopefully next week.

So…what do you think? Too much? Not enough? 😁 See, I’m almost tempted to add some more of this yarn – I love this yarn…can you tell? 😜 – somewhere else.

Have you ever made anything that went so completely ‘out of the box’?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you! 😘

Until then πŸ’•
