A Bug, Β Two Hats, and Three Squares πŸ˜

Hello my lovely friends  πŸ’•

Word of advice….if you’re squeamish – scroll by the first picture real fast 😝

Okay – you have been warned πŸ˜‰

A Bug

This weird, but somehow very fascinating, creature was hanging out by our front door yesterday 😳

I had never seen one in ‘real life’ …just photos. They really do look like sticks, especially since this one had a leaf stuck to it. 😁 Just the feelers – moving frantically- gave it away.

Two Hats

I love Pixie Hats 😍 So this week I gathered up my courage, and finally gave it a try…

First I made a Toddler size one…using an easy pattern from Two Little C’s

The yarn is ‘Fruity Stripes’ from Red Heart’. Not usually my choice for wearable accessories/clothing, but I love the colors. And like my daughter pointed out…’It definitely is water-repellent’ πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

For the second one I wanted to use a yarn from my stash – Lion Brand ‘Landscapes Tropics’

It is an acrylic yarn, but looks and feels like wool (without the scratchy-ness πŸ˜‰) and it’s machine washable.

I knew I didn’t have enough for the pattern, so I started at the band, and worked my way up. I decreased as I saw fit…and am proud to report that it worked on the first try.

If I ever manage that again 😊 there will be a written pattern.

Three Squares

Two, three weeks ago I started on a new ‘Gypsy Cardigan’. I always use the ‘Mandala Cakes’. It was a struggle from the beginning, because the colors/lengths didn’t match from one cake to the next. But somehow I made it work. πŸ˜„ So I had matching squares

On to the contrasting triangles. Ha – you’d think ‘yellow and grey…pretty neutral colors. Easy peasy’. Well, no! Not true πŸ˜– Nothing seemed to work

No green-ish, no purple, no teal…I now have enough triangles to make a separate cardigan πŸ˜‚

I took everything apart, and thought ‘I’ll make a shawl’. A quick border, seams – done!

Nope πŸ˜• Colors look ok…but there’s a lot of puckering going on

I’m beginning to think that these squares don’t wanna be anything …except maybe a pillow in a ’70s german living room 😜

See it there…on the right…on top of the couch. πŸ˜‚

I’m not giving up though. Something will come to me. 😁

Alrighty – that’s all for today 😊 Oh, one more thing…I’d like to send you into the weekend with a little chuckle

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Have a fabulous Friday πŸ’•

I’m sending Love ❀️ Smiles πŸ˜ƒ and Hugs πŸ€— your way, and hope to see you tomorrow for the ‘Fantastic Bake Along’s Chili/Chocolate Bread’!

Weekly Chronicle 😎

Hello, hello, hello my lovely friends  πŸ’• Happy Friday! It’s the 13th 😳 How do you feel about that? A lot of salt tossing or just another day? 😁

It’s so good to be back here in the blogging world 😊 It’s been a while for me πŸ˜• If there’s such a thing as ‘Bloggers Block’ I had it. I wrote a few posts in my mind, even started writing some down…but it was all a bit ‘meh’.

But…that was then, this is now. So here we are – I can’t promise that it won’t be ‘meh’…but I’ll do my best! πŸ€“

I must have been distant…I even skipped ‘Your Weekend Chuckle’ 😱 That’s unacceptable! So…to hold you over ’til tomorrow – here’s one

I think she’s ready for the weekend! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

All of last week I was pretty busy preparing for the annual ‘AppleFest’ in Weston, Missouri    (that little town is home to my store).

AppleFest is awesome 😍 Weston’s Mainstreet is a beautiful, historic setting for fabulous artist booths, delicious food, and local bands. Thousands of people come every year to celebrate the 🍏 Apple 🍎 season with us!

Remember last time I told you the Ponchos are finished? (Probably not…’cause you have a life 😜…but I really did!) Well, turns out I was bragging a bit. I left out the fact that I still had to weave in ends 😣 Ends…I strongly dislike those dang things. It took me one whole day to weave them in…ugh. But- I did get it done, and they made their first appearance at the shop on Saturday

They fit right in, don’t you think? πŸ’œ

🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲

My Fall-Arrangements were a big hit last year, so I brought some of them

🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁🍎🍁🌲🍎🌲🍁

This week’s WIP is another *Gypsy*Cardi* – it’s taking a bit longer than expected, because I wanna do an unconventional color-mix, without hurting anyone’s eyes πŸ˜‹ So there’s a bit of trial and error, sometimes I won’t know that that doesn’t work until the square/triangle is done.

For example… I thought ‘Purple is just what this cardi needs’  Yeah, turns out – it doesn’t πŸ˜… See

So…new color search πŸ€” I like this one much better 😊 What do you think? Please ignore the purple…that’ll be gone as soon as I’m finished here.

I’m still not sure…maybe I need a break from it?! πŸ˜‰

Oh yeah…fabulous news (for me anyway 😁) I finally got a yarn winder! And it’s so awesome! Because I work a lot, well…almost exclusively, with the yarn cakes – but not ‘crochet it as it comes’, more like ‘Now I need the third color in’ πŸ˜‰ So I had a big yarn mess at all times. Not anymore! πŸ˜ƒ And my little winder comes in handy when a skein falls apart too. Like so

And bipety-bopetty-boo – it looks like this

Pretty fabulous, isn’t it?! 😍

I do believe that’s all for now. I hope it wasn’t to ‘meh’ 😊 It’s good to be back in the saddle again!

I’ll see you tomorrow with ‘Your Weekend Chuckle’. Promise! 😘

Until then πŸ’•

WIP ~ Wednesday – 2 Ponchos, a Cardigan, and a QuestionΒ

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• Told ya I’d have something to show you today 😁 I’m a bit late…but at least it’s still Wednesday πŸ˜‰ I spent the day with my daughter – she had a -rare- day off, and I took advantage of that. 😍

So here’s what I got today…

1. Remember The Granny Square Cardigan? It was almost finished, just needed the ends woven in, when I decided I didn’t like the sleeves. They were very stiff – and looked it – and a tad too tight. Well, I finally got around to making new ones…well one πŸ˜‹ But I like it so much better that the second one won’t be too far behind.

But look for yourself…

I’d say it’s a good match. 😊

First I wanted to add some surface crochet ( tested it with a length of chain stitches)

…but I decided against it. πŸ€“

2. Poncho ‘Feronia’

Feronia is the name of an Autumn Goddess. Her festival, the Feroniae, was held on November 13th when the first fruits of the harvest were offered to her to ensure a bountiful crop the following year.
The colors remind me of Fall…so this Poncho really deserves the name. Don’t you think? πŸ™‚

3. Poncho ‘Maia’ – you saw this one last week. I decided to go with the flowers, and am now crocheting more of them for the other side.

The lovely Tami from Tanglewood Knots noticed that the green looks like the foliage of the flowers 😍 So the mismatched green spot is good for something πŸ˜‰

This one got it’s name from ‘Maia‘, a greek Spring Goddess. And since the colors and flowers are very ‘spring-y’ it’s only fitting. 😊

4. The Flower Blanket

Still making flowers for this one – actually I do have a bit more done than what it shows here…but the light is fading so I can’t get a good photo πŸ˜•

Now to the ‘question‘ part  πŸ˜

Let me start by saying that I have the sneaking suspicion that I will be crocheting for a long time to come, and I can’t possibly wear/store everything I’m making πŸ€“ And I know many of you are working hard at creating beautiful things.

So my question is – Do you have an online store? If yes – where? Etsy? Shopify? Somewhere else? Any suggestions, recommendations, tips? Anything you got is greatly appreciated! Thank you! πŸ€—

Alrighty…dinner time! 😁 Thanks for stopping in and reading aaaaallll the way down to here πŸ™‚

I hope to see you again soon!

Until then πŸ’•

Work ~ in ~ Progress WednesdayΒ

Hello my lovely friends  πŸ’• Thanks for visiting!

Before Wednesday turns into Thursday I wanna show you real quick what I’m working on these days. 😊

Here’s the reason why I’m so late…

Yesterday I finished this stole….and not a moment too soon I might add. See… 😜

I guess you can say that the ‘Crochet Goddess’ smiled fondly upon me. πŸ˜‡

Well, that was yesterday. Today…not so much. πŸ˜•

I spent a good chunk of the day adding a ruffle border to the stole. That was a lot more time consuming than I anticipated. That thing is biiiiig! 😳

So….after picking up stitches (a lot of stitches!) with the ruffle yarn, knitting one round, starting to bind off…I noticed that the stole is now quite wavy. Not the desired effect. Meh πŸ˜”

🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸 ⬅️ My immediate future πŸ˜›

Oh well, not the first time, and probably not the last.

I’m pretty sure that I know where I went wrong….more about that -hopefully- tomorrow.

🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺🌼

There are two more projects in progress right now.

This one…

I’m not sure where it’s going…I just wanted to see how the fuzzy yarn looks as a piece, not just as a border. It’s kinda cute, don’t you think? There is an idea trying to form in my mind….let’s see if it leads to something.

And then there is, of course, the never ending story of the cardigan. 😏

After I finished the back with the funky yarn, the maroon seams really didn’t fit the picture anymore. So I undid them, and redid them in funky 😁

See what you think

Before

After

It’s definitely more ‘me’ now. I love crazy colors, and sorta mismatched clothes. 😍

Did you ever rework a piece numerous times? Please tell me that -eventually – I’ll be done! πŸ˜‰

I’m looking forward to hearing from you! πŸ€—

Until next time πŸ’•

Work~in~Progress Wednesday 🌺 Join your Granny Squares and Crochet some Lollipops

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• Thanks for popping by to see the progress on the Granny Square Cardi πŸ€—

Here’s the reason why I’m so late today….

  The Lollipops πŸ˜€

I’ll show you what I did with them in a minute.

But first…all the Squares and Triangles are finished. Time to join everything together. You might remember that I had joined some already  – just to see where I was going with this. 😊 There are different ways to sew/crochet them together. I didn’t want them to be attached to closely, so I chose this ….

It’s easy to do…take a look πŸ‘€

Start with 2 squares, and crochet one double-crochet into one corner. Yo, 3 dc into the corner of another square.

Come back to the first square and place 3 dc into the second square.

I found that this is the best way to hold the two pieces

Keep going back and forth until the last square. Work 1dc into it.

Alright…now that all the pieces are joined I noticed that there was a gap in the back! 😳 The pieces didn’t fit as perfectly as I thought.

I forgot to take a picture….here’s one from the first attempt to fill it in. That’s quite a gap, isn’t it?! 😝

I didn’t just want to fill it in with the yarn color on either side. So I tried Granny Squares in the contrast color ⬆️ Meh….nah

Then I tried bigger blocks to place in the middle and go from there

Well, that looked waaaaay better in my head 🀣

Next….

Hmmm…. Getting closer – I love the yarn, love the mandala….just not on the cardi.

Show of hands – who knew that, eventually, I’d add something oddly mismatched, wild and colorful? 😝 You were right! Here we go

And there are the Lollipops πŸ˜‚

Because just a square of outrageous yarn just wouldn’t do! πŸ˜‰

That’s where I am so far. I was really hoping I could show you the finished cardi today….but the Design-Goddess had other ideas. 😊 Hopefully next week.

So…what do you think? Too much? Not enough? 😁 See, I’m almost tempted to add some more of this yarn – I love this yarn…can you tell? 😜 – somewhere else.

Have you ever made anything that went so completely ‘out of the box’?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you! 😘

Until then πŸ’•

Work~in~Progress Wednesday 🌺 A (small) Miracle πŸ˜Š

Hello my lovely friends πŸ’• Thank you so much for peeking in!

Are you curious about the small miracle? Okay…I’ll get right to it πŸ€“

The second sleeve of the ‘Granny Square Cardi’ is finished πŸ™†πŸ» and it looks exactly like the first one!!!!! A miracle, right?! πŸ˜€ I can hardly believe it myself! But, nevertheless….there it is

I have to admit, this is the second attempt. The first time I didn’t pick up enough stitches and was short three. And, believe it or not, that made a big difference! πŸ˜‹

This took a little longer than needed, because I was procrastinating….worried that it wouldn’t come out as wanted, that I couldn’t recreate the first sleeve. But once I reassured myself that nothing is permanent….hey, I did become an expert in frogging 🀣 …. it became easier to start.

So this is what I have so far

Already recognizable, right? 😍

From here on out it’s just Granny Squares and -Triangles, joining them together, and a fancy border (just a vision right now…I’ll reveal it once it’s finished 😁) Pretty smooth sailing from here on out. Oh geez, I hope I didn’t jinx it now! 😳

Oh….real quick. While I was dilly-dallying, waiting for the courage to start the second sleeve, I worked a bit on the ‘Triangle Scarf’

I’m now on the 4th skein…it needs a few more inches – and a fancy border. 😏

Now it’s back to hook and yarn, so I can show some more progress next week. πŸ€—

I do hope you join me again next time!

Until then πŸ’•

Work ~in~Progress Wedne……eh, Thursday πŸ€“

Hello and ‘Happy June’ my lovely friends πŸ’• Thank you for peeking in on WiP Wednesday…one day late. πŸ˜‹

First…can I please get a ‘WootWoot’ and a ‘Hooray’?  πŸŽ‰ The sleeve is done! I actually figured it out. Took me long enough. 😝

I lost count, but there must have been 6, 7, 8 tries! πŸ™„ Meaning, 6, 7, 8completely finished sleeves…only to be frogged! 😫

But, that’s all behind us,  and now we can admire

The Sleeve

I tried double crochet, granny pattern…it just wouldn’t fit right. It was way to big and bulky.

So after 2 tries I decided to undo the mock lacing, and then came – you guessed it – more frogging. 😏 Now they’re about half the size …much better. πŸ˜€

Next try was a failure…of course πŸ˜‹ While the triangle was ok by itself, adding the length of a sleeve made it too, yep, bulky. More frogging.

The next idea was a ‘inserted’ sleeve. I picked up 16″ in stitches about 1″ up the inside of the triangle, and started with a double crochet stitch. So far, so good.

The ‘fitting’ showed that I had been too generous with the decreases. Rrrrip the stitches went. But at least I knew now that I was on the right track, because I really liked the way it looked.

Next try I got it right. It ended just where I wanted it to, 5″ above the wrist. I wanted a longer cuff to show of the beautiful Tunesian Stitch πŸ’œ

What happened next is hard to believe. Cuff done, I draped everything over my arm and shoulder….the cuff was wrong side out. 😫 And it can’t be worn another way because of the triangle/sleeve overlap. Rrrrrip, extra attention to the way everything lays….and….ta-da….DONE! Happy dance and 🍾πŸ₯‚

Because I wrote down what I was doing every step of the long way, I now have to identify and decipher the correct notes for the final, successful, version for the second sleeve… and maybe a crochet along for everybody. What do you think? Would you be interested in something like that? 😊

Now I have to admit… I was pretty close to unraveling myself a few times…pun intended 🀣

To keep from going bonkers – and maybe set the whole thing on fire – I worked on two other, simpler pieces.

First….a super soft Camo scarf in – my current favorite – Tunesian Stitch

Second…a triangle scarf in the Granny Square pattern. I love this yarn, and hope that it’ll be around for a long time 😍

Somehow I really want some blackberry ice cream now! 😎

Now I’ll go and tackle my notes, and then the second sleeve. πŸ™ƒ

What are you working on right now? Did you ever have that many problems with a piece? I really am looking forward to hearing from you! πŸ€—

Until then πŸ’•
