Small ~ Project ~ Sunday – A Yard Sale Find Extraordinaireย

Hello my lovely friends ๐Ÿ’• How nice of you to make time for me on this wonderful weekend ๐Ÿ˜

No crochet news today – but what I wanna show you instead is pretty nifty. ๐Ÿ˜

On Saturday I spend a few hours thrifting. And at one yard sale I spotted an amazing vintage embroidery ๐Ÿ’œ

Here are some details

Beautiful, isn’t it?!

After I brought my treasure home I hunted for a frame…I always buy them at thrift stores – just in case. And yesterday was such a case ๐Ÿ˜†

It was already stretched on a piece of cardboard…and wouldn’t you know, I had a frame that fit perfectly! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Happy Dance! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

The frame is  was not very pretty, but is in great shape

     Very ‘blah’ ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
Time for some chalk paint and wax…ta-da

I applied the paint, with a wide, flat brush, yesterday…let it dry overnight (even though it doesn’t take that long – an hour or two is plenty). Then I applied a thin layer of wax in a few spots (not all over ’cause all I had is a dark brown). Done!  ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿป

A few staples in the back – the frame didn’t have any of those metal bendy thingies. ๐Ÿค“

And here she is

I’m very happy with it ๐Ÿ˜ It seems like it was meant to be….the perfect fit and the color paint I had is actually a color in the embroidery.

Now I’m sitting here admiring my lovely ‘new’ wall art โ˜บ๏ธ

Did you ever have a spontaneous project that worked out on the first try?  (Psst – doesn’t happen all that often around here ๐Ÿ˜†)

Thanks for dropping by and reading all the way down to here ๐Ÿค—

I wonder who embroidered this. Did you have a chance to ask at the yard sale? It’s beautiful.

I wondered the same thing. I did ask the girl, but she got it at a thrift store, and there are no markings on the back ๐Ÿ˜• I just wanna urge all artists ‘Sign your creations’ – show how proud you are of it! โ˜บ๏ธ
It is gorgeous – I keep walking into the living room to look at it ๐Ÿ˜Š

You’ll have to give the artist a name like they do for unnamed artists of ancient times. Like ancient Greek ceramic painters are named, for example the “Andokides Painter.” You could call this artist the “Typical Embroiderer” because they obviously finished it and stashed it away without bothering to do anything with it. We all do that sometimes with our almost finished stuff! Oh oh you could call them the “Unfinished Embroiderer.”

And that’s what we’ll do ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I’m glad the artist now has a name ๐Ÿ˜Š

What a beautiful find! My grandmother made a similar piece without the bird and I hope I get it someday! I was in another military post when my grandmother’s belongings got sold. One of my Aunts bought it only to have it available in her own yard sale and my mother-inlaw bought it and hung it in her living room! Imagine how surprised I was to see it again! I hope someday it will be mine. What a coincidence-huh?
