My First Crochet ~Along…and a BIG ‘Duh’ Moment πŸ€¦β€β™‚️

Hello my lovely friends  πŸ’• Wonderful to see you!

Last week I signed up for my first crochet ~along. 😁 It was announced on the ‘Yarnspiration’ Facebook page, in collaboration with the ‘Crochet Crowd’.

Since I’ve been wanting to do one for quite some time now, and Mikey from the Crochet Crowd is always a great source of inspiration (and, hey – I got to buy more yarn 😜) I signed up, went and ordered my yarn….giggles…..and waited. πŸ˜• Not my greatest talent – but I made it. πŸ˜‹

The first part of the instructions arrived – via e-mail- on Monday, together with the reveal of the project picture

I like the look of that! 😍

The yarn didn’t get here ’til Tuesday evening πŸ™„ so I had to wait until yesterday (Wednesday) to finally start my blanket.

But first – decision time. Which colors to use? See, when I ordered the yarn I couldn’t really decide. I knew I wanted purple and lime green. Well, guess what? No lime green πŸ˜• I didn’t like the sage…so I went with turquoise and apricot/orange. Close enough! πŸ˜‚

The pairing of the skeins

   That’s nice 😊   That’s ok too πŸ™‚

  Yep…that’s it πŸ˜€
I looked over the instructions

Glanced at the note, 1st, 2nd, 3rd round….got it! Or so I thought! 😜

Now we’re coming to my big ‘Duh’ moment. See ☝️in the note where it says “carry color not in use loosely across the top of previous row” and see how the sentence continues?! Well, apparently a glance at ‘notes’ in instructions is not advisable! 😸 Since I stopped glancing right at “previous row”, I did not really know how to accomplish the carrying of the color. And apparently a severe brainfog prevented me from figuring it out all by myself. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

And that’s how I ended up with this

You can see exactly where and when I took a closer look at the directions πŸ˜‚

But since it’s just for me I didn’t frog it. πŸ˜‹ The other side is perfectly fine

I still love my colors. 😍 What do you think of it/them?

Are you inspired? If you are…here’s the link to the pattern. 😁

Thanks for visiting today 😍  I hope you don’t think any less of me now! πŸ€—

I’m looking forward to hearing from you…tell me what you’re thinking 😎

Take good care of yourself πŸ’•

Love your colour choice! If it ends up bothering you, you could always try to snip those and sew the ends in πŸ˜‰

LoL I’ve had that happen to me. If it’s not important, I just leave it. If it’s a problem, I try to do what Emma said and weave in the the ends.

I love the color combo Tina!! I’m the same way about reading directions LOL! That’s why I’ve been trying to shift to just designing my own things and not using patterns at all. I’ll watch a video to learn the concept or methods to do what I want but then I just make up my own design using my favorite stitches. Of course I don’t write anything down and even when I do take notes they end up making absolutely no sense when I read them later. I’ve used the Tapestry Crochet techniques before and didn’t even know that’s what it was called until I just read it in your snippet of instructions! πŸ˜€

We learn something new every day 😁
I haven’t used a pattern since I started crocheting again…and now we know why 😜
It’s funny (or sad πŸ˜•)…I feel a pattern stifles my creativity. The thought of working around the unused color had briefly crossed my mind, but the fact that it showed through the stitches stopped me. Only when I saw that Mikey’s was like it…I figured it has to be ok.
I have to learn to just do as I want when using patterns….or follow your example and keep making up my own 😍 Of course I’d have to get better at ‘note keeping’ …like you said- after a while they’re a head scratcher πŸ˜…

Oh Tina you hit the nail right on the head – “following a pattern stifles my creativity”. That is exactly how I feel!!!! Sure there are tons of gorgeous patterns out there but they are someone else’s gorgeous designs. I get such a thrill when I make something that I know is 100% made by me and that it is a one of a kind!! I can’t tell you how proud I am that the skirt I recently made is the only one in the entire world!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

        I totally agree…that is a wonderful feeling 😍
I recently made a cardigan that started with a few Granny Squares, then a second color wanted to move in, and just when everyone thought it’s gonna be a pretty ‘normal’ cardi – if a bit unusual – the crazy child in me took over πŸ˜‚ and now it really is all ‘me’ πŸ˜€ I’m thrilled every time I look at it, and can hardly wait for fall to get here! 😏You’re rightfully very proud of your amazing skirt! 😍 It’s a beautiful design, and lovely stitch work.I love the ‘Gypsy’ look of it. πŸ’•
I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with next πŸ€—

Did you do a post for the cardigan? I would love to see a picture! And I LOVE the way you described your design process for it – “the second color wanted to move in” – that’s fantastic!! I’m so glad I found your blog and I can’t wait to see what you come up with next too!! πŸ˜€

Same here, Tami 😍 It’s wonderful to visit back and forth and chat πŸ˜€
I do love when a design finds its own voice 😊
I once – during my attempts at becoming a published writer πŸ˜‹ – read a book called ‘Let the crazy child write’… and I found that that advice is easily translated into design. It can get wild 😜 as you can see in the ‘Cardigan Post’. If you wanna take a look, here it is

I just checked out your cardi – I ❀ it!!
I crocheted the whole weekend. So for most of the general population that might not sound like fun plans, but for people like us it's wooohooo yarn party!!!! How was your weekend? πŸ˜€

I love yarn party weekends 😍 I just had the Sunday for that. I have a small shop in a little town nearby, and that’s where I spend my Saturdays. But that’s ok…it really is just the Saturdays. During the week the town is deserted, it would be a waste of gas to drive out there 😏
I’m glad to hear that you had a good weekend…can’t wait to see what you’re working on πŸ˜ƒ
